SIFE Team Wins Regional Competition

SDSU's Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) team has returned from New York City as winners of the SIFE USA Regional Competition held April 3, 2008. Headed by Kimberly Carter, a recent marketing graduate, and the SIFE advisor, Dr. Don Sciglimpaglia, a team of 11 students represented SDSU at the competition. A panel of 15 business leaders judged them on their projects, presentation, and overall team sustainability. The team will now advance to the National Competition in Chicago in May where the winner will get a chance to travel to Singapore to represent the United States in the SIFE World Cup.
SIFE is an international non-profit organization active on more than 1,500 university campuses in 48 countries. SIFE teams create economic opportunities in their communities by organizing outreach projects that focus on market economics, entrepreneurship, personal financial success skills, and business ethics. It also gives students the opportunity to become involved in their local communities.
During this academic year, the San Diego State SIFE team worked with 24 different small business owners in National City. “The SDSU SIFE team has made a lasting impact on many small business owners in National City,” said Mayor Ron Morrison of National City. “As our city continues to progress, the SDSU SIFE team will play a pivotal role in development of National City.”
In addition, SIFE has also been actively involved with students from San Diego High School by giving them tours of the SDSU campus and encouraging the high school students to consider attending college.
