Students Help Local Non-Profit Organizations

Thirty-three SDSU MBA students are managing the design and implementation of a new Customer Relationship Management (CRM) strategy and software for nine local non-profit organizations (NPOs) clients. Salesforce.com, has donated on-demand CRM software to the SDSU students. The students are not only installing the software and showing the non-profits how to use it, but they are also implementing a marketing strategy around the application.
Having a formal development strategy has been a huge benefit for many NPOs, who didn't have a consistent communication plan in place. The new strategy is helping them to better forecast their marketing resources, as well as consolidating data and content that was previously on separate systems. The software will help to document donor, participant, and volunteer experiences and behavior; track and maintain donors; identify data and technology requirements; and determine how to encourage more frequent donations.
The students are working with Buddy Bowl, Elder Help of San Diego, Outdoor Outreach, San Diego Film Festival, San Diego Futures Foundation, Shakti Rising, Social Enterprise Institute, The Kids College, and Volunteer San Diego. “The team at SDSU has been excellent and involved,” said Robin Laatz co-founder and executive director of the San Diego Film Festival. “They trained us to use the system which is extremely important for a non-profit organization like ourselves and for that we are very grateful to SDSU.”
