Dr. C. Janie Chang (accountancy) presided over the Inaugural Annual Accounting Research Conference of Chinese Accounting Professors Association in North America (CAPANA) as the president of the association. The conference was held from June 11-13, in Shanghai, China and had over 70 attendees from the U.S., Canada, Hong Kong, Singapore and China. The top universities in China (e.g., Beijing University, Fudan University, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, Sun Yat-Sen University, and Tsinghua University) were represented.

Dr. Xudong An (finance) has been notified that he and Dr. Yongheng Deng from the University of Southern California have been presented with a research grant from The Real Estate Research Institute for their project, “A Structural Model of Capitalization Rate”. RERI, one of the most prestigious real estate research institutes in the United States, gave out a total of only six grants this year, including Dr. An’s award.

Hu titled “Social Exchange Theory: Understanding Organizational Commitment and the Employment Exchange Relationship” was presented at the International Association for Chinese Management Research in Guangzhou, China, June 19 – 22, 2008.

Tetrick titled “Research on Diversity in Organizations” in the symposium titled Emerging Issues in I & O Psychology Research (Co-chairs Dianna Stone and Diana Deadrick) was presented at the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology, San Francisco, California, April 10 – 22, 2008.

Dr. Chamu Sundaramurthy (management) presented two papers on corporate boards and IPO performance and on communities of practice during the Strategic Management Society Meetings held in San Diego, California in October, 2007.

A paper by Dr. Michelle Dean (management) with J.M. Conte titled “An overview and update on the measurement of emotional intelligence” was presented at the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology, San Francisco, California, April 10 – 22, 2008.
Dr. Michelle Dean (management) has been notified that her Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice article “The past, present, and future of entrepreneurship research: Data analytic trends and training” ranked among the top 20 article downloads from Wiley-Blackwell Synergy in 2007.

The International Business Economics Accounting Collaborative Network (iBEACON) will hold a special session at the American Accounting Association 2008 Annual Meeting. The session, titled “The Frontiers of Global Accounting Research” will be held on August 4, 2008 at the Anaheim Hilton in Anaheim, California. Dr. Victoria Krivogorsky (accountancy) will serve as the special session coordinator and Dr. Gary Grudnitski (accountancy) will act as session moderator. |

iBEACON
During the annual conference of the European Accounting Association in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, on April 23-25, members of iBEACON presented several research papers and held an organization-wide meeting. During this meeting, iBEACON members discussed the means of creating potentially greater visibility for the organization in terms of research exposure for its members and increased recognition of iBEACON as a premier international accounting research network. The group plans to do this by participating in collaborative work with other international accounting researchers and presenting the results of the research at prominent international conventions.
