After Successful Start, Montezuma Money Management to Attend Berkshire Hathaway Annual Meeting

Montezuma Money Management

Montezuma Money Management (MMM) was formed in February 2007 by 19 SDSU undergraduate students, most of whom are involved in SDSU’s Finance and Investment Society. MMM provides students with an opportunity to gain real world investing and fund management experience.

The group holds monthly meetings where each member contributes $100 each toward the fund. A formal voting process determines which stocks or commodities are ultimately purchased.

MMM has been very successful so far, finishing up at an over 35 percent gain for the 2007 calendar year.  At a time when the markets have been volatile and trending downward, the group’s diversified portfolio has benefited significantly from the stocks/commodities which the group owns, including GLD (Gold), ADM (Archer Daniels Midland and ethanol producer), and UNH (United Health Care).

Using a private blog, group members contribute their comments regarding their thoughts and views of what is taking place in the market throughout the day. The fact that MMM has outperformed the market as a whole (as well as the overwhelming majority of all fund managers throughout the country) has been an inspiration for everyone in the group. Many members feel that the group’s current track record has been one of their greatest accomplishments in their young careers.

All 19 members of MMM are set to attend Berkshire Hathaway’s annual meeting in Omaha, Neb., May 2 – 4, 2008. The group has been promised an introduction to Warren Buffet and they may also get the opportunity to sit down and meet with him, time permitting. MMM is currently in the process of assembling a color annual report to take to Omaha to promote the group and SDSU to Buffet and other meeting attendees.
