SDSU Real Estate Chair Wins Top Honor from American Real Estate Society
Patric Hendershott, visiting chair in the real estate program, has received the David Ricardo Medal from the American Real Estate Society (ARES). The award represents the highest recognition by ARES of scholarly work in the real estate discipline. Hendershott was presented the medal at the ARES annual meeting in San Francisco on April 12.
According to ARES, the award recognizes a person who has created a significant body of published research in academic and refereed professional journals, spanning at least two decades, that includes multiple important, influential writings in journals and/or books. The honoree is a recognized thought leader, as evidenced by extensive citations of his scholarly research in recognized textbooks, treatises and articles. The recipient has profoundly influenced the research direction, teaching, public policy and or practice of the real estate discipline.
"We sincerely wish to congratulate Dr. Hendershott on his well-deserved award,” said Ure Kretowicz, CEO of Cornerstone Communities Corp. and chair of the SDSU Real Estate Advisory Board. “We remain very pleased and honored to have Dr. Hendershott serve as the acting chair for our Real Estate program. His contributions here already include a revamping of our program's curriculum, making it more relevant to today's real estate demands, and providing the tools for our graduates to become 'Day One Ready' as they commence their careers."
Hendershott has served as visiting chair at SDSU since fall 2006 and is a half-time Chair in Property Economics and Finance at the University of Aberdeen in Scotland. He is currently a research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research, has formerly taught at Northwestern, Purdue and Ohio State Universities and has had visiting professorships at Stanford University, New York University, University of Florida, University of Melbourne and Bond University in Australia. He received his Ph.D. in Economics from Purdue University.
Hendershott is a prolific publisher with five books and over 140 articles in journals such as Real Estate Economics, Journal of Real Estate Research, Journal of Real Estate Finance and Economics. He is a recipient of the George Bloom Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Field of Real Estate from the American Real Estate and Urban Economics Association. Recent articles on citations in the top real estate journals list him as one of the three most cited authors.
