Marketing Professor Mickey Belch
Receives Monty
Integrated Marketing Communications Professor Michael (Kartalija) Belch has been named this year’s CBA recipient of the Alumni Award for Outstanding Contribution to the University.
The Monty alumni award honors those who have made significant contributions to SDSU, the San Diego community or California, nationally or internationally. The time-honored tradition at SDSU is a symbol of achievement and success presented to distinguished alumni and faculty from each of SDSU's seven academic colleges, Imperial Valley Campus and Library and Information Access.
Belch has been a Professor at SDSU since 1976. During that time he has received numerous Outstanding Professor awards, as well as an Excellence in Teaching award. He has taught in France, Spain, China, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Slovenia, and the Netherlands. Belch has authored and co-authored over 35 articles in academic journals on advertising, consumer behavior, and international marketing. Additionally, he co-authored with his brother George Belch, the number one IMC textbook, “Advertising and Promotion: An Integrated Marketing Communications
Perspective,” now in its 7th edition.
Belch is a member of multiple academic organizations including the
Association for Consumer Research, The Academy of Advertising, The Society
for Consumer Research, and the Academy of Marketing Science. He is a
member of the editorial review board for the Journal of Advertising.
Belch received his B.S. degree from The Pennsylvania State University, and
his MBA from Drexel University. He obtained his Ph.D. from the University
of Pittsburgh, with a major in consumer behavior and a minor in social
psychology. Prior to obtaining his Ph.D., Belch was employed by the
General Foods Corporation as a Marketing Representative.

Keely Bamberg, EMC, Director of Intern Programs
Bamberg is nominated by colleagues for “going beyond the call of duty when you stepped in and covered for staff members in the EMC. You kept the EMC afloat by coordinating with development and HR all the funding receipts and payables. You are a remarkable woman who is dedicated to the university and the EMC.” |

Dean’s nominator said, “You are an excellent teacher, a productive scholar and a wonderful citizen. Your teaching evaluations are consistently above department and college averages even when you teach large sections and considering the rigorous standard of performance you hold your students to.” |

Téa Piper Flynn, Executive and Specialized Programs, Graduate Assistant
Flynn is recognized for her “efficiency with time sensitive projects throughout Bridget and Ana’s maternity leave. Your handling with all the day-to-day aspects of the EMBA admissions process is outstanding. As of April, EMBA had the highest number of applications ever received.” |

Chris Graham, Director of Aztec Business Alliance
Graham is acknowledged for “his strong commitment to expanding internship and career opportunities for all our business students. You are the kind of leader who is thoughtful and considerate of your staff while possessing the level of business acumen and political savvy necessary to establish and maintain strong community partnerships.” |

Gary Grudnitski, Accounting, Professor
Grudnitski is honored for his “selfless work chairing the Undergradate Committee and as the CBA representative to the University Faculty Development Grants Committee. Your work on the Undergradate Committee has been particularly impressive, given the volume of curriculum proposals that came through this year and the university requirements for the proposals that you understand better than anyone in the college.” |

Heather Honea, Marketing, Professor
Honea receives acknowledgment “for her outstanding service contributions to the college, as well as to student organizations. As a member of the Graduate Committee you have made outstanding contributions to all aspects of the committees work and activities, and your work with student organizations has been instrumental in getting students to become more involved in the college.” |

Sharon Lightner, Director of the School of Accountancy
Lightner is recognized for her “tireless work in the School of Accountancy to substantially improve our fundraising, with very good results, reevaluation of our curriculum, integrating our new faculty and recruiting our one new faculty member. She has an ability to put forth various visions while listening to faculty, students, and donors so as to incorporate their priorities and ideas.” |

Bruce Reinig, IDS, Chair
Reinig is honored for “making a number of outstanding contributions that benefit students and the IDS department. Your work on the featured alumni testimonials will help attract students to the major by showcasing types of employment obtained by IDS alumni. You consistently exhibit a professional approach and infectious positive attitude towards your work and coworkers.”

Karey Sabol, Academic Advisor, Business Advising Center
Sabol received praise for “her professional yet caring, positive and compassionate approach to our students and her willingness to reach out and lend a helping hand to those in need. With the ‘Visions and Values’ statement, you truly put those concepts into practical use, putting your team at the top of the priority list and enthusiastically offering to assist all in the advising center.” |

Mehdi Salehizadeh, Finance, Professor
Salehizadeh is acknowledged for “his work championing the new MBA proposal and for leading assessment efforts for the MBA program and as the voice of reason and mediator on the Steering Committee.”

Sandi Williams, Assistant Dean for Student Affairs
Williams was nominated by colleagues for “her significant and positive contributions to our college. Under your leadership the business advising team developed their ‘Vision and Values’ statement and initiated an effective ‘Advisor Track’ system. These accomplishments not only benefit our students, but they are exemplary of your positive, cohesive leadership skills.” |
