Students Compete for Cash Prizes at Business Plan Competition
The eighteenth annual Venture Challenge, SDSU’s premiere business plan competition, will be held at the San Diego Mission Valley Marriott on March 15-17, 2007. The event offers 20 student teams from around the world the chance to present their business plans to San Diego business community leaders and compete for over $25,000 in prizes. The Venture Challenge exhibit reception, semi-finalist and finalist presentations are open to the public and the community is encouraged to attend.

Business Forum Hosts Retreat
The Entrepreneurial Management Center (EMC) Business Forum is hosting its
2nd Annual Retreat on March 9-11. The three-day event titled "From Vision
to Action" will provide companies with the opportunity to learn from the
experts in closely-held and family businesses.
Topics being discussed at the event include: succession planning, strategic planning and governance. Attendees also will learn how to establish advisory boards/board of directors and how to work with family members in a family business.

Explore SDSU on March 17, 2007
The fifth annual SDSU Month celebration honoring San Diego State University’s “Minds that Move the World” is returning in March 2007.
Join students, faculty, staff and alumni to celebrate the contributions the university has made to the San Diego community. From teaching and research to community service, discover what moves today’s SDSU students.
SDSU Month is filled with activity, featuring dozens of arts, academic and athletic events, including the Explore SDSU open house Saturday, March 17. Explore SDSU is a great opportunity to learn about all SDSU has to offer. This year’s open house will feature a Family Zone with fun activities for kids and families, including KPBS character readings from some of public television’s most popular characters. There will be “villages” around campus with free exhibits, tours, live entertainment and more.

Learn About the Life Science Industry in China
The Invitrogen Distinguished Lecture Series in partnership with San Diego State University College of Business Administration and College of Sciences proudly presents Zhu Chen, Ph.D, Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Chen will speak on “Opportunities and Challenges for Life Science and Biotechnology in China.”
The event is Wednesday, April 11, 2007 from 6:30 -8:30 p.m. at the San Diego Marriott Del Mar, 11966 El Camino Real.
Dr. Chen has made important discoveries in the molecular foundations of several types of human leukemia and was recently named as one of the coordinators for the Human Genome Project in China. He has received numerous awards for science and technology throughout his career, including the Second Degree National Award for Science and Technology, Third Degree Award of National Sciences and the First Degree Award of the National Ministry of Public Health.
The event is free and members of San Diego’s life sciences/biotechnology communities are encouraged to attend. A reception will follow the event. An RSVP is needed to reserve a space by Wednesday, March 21. Seating is limited and offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
