"Corporate Transparency: Key Factors and Their Impact on US Firms' Credit Ratings and Cost of Capital," a paper by Assistant Accounting Professor David DeBoskey, was accepted and will be published in the proceedings of two peer-reviewed conferences: American Accounting Association (AAA) Western Regional Meeting (forthcoming April 2007) and the Hawaii International Conference on Business (forthcoming May 2007).

“Managing Stress in the Expatriate Family: A Case Study of the State Department of the United States of America,” a study by Gangaram Singh, management chair, and A. Wilkinson, will be published in Public Personnel Management (Forthcoming, 2007).

Gangaram Singh, management chair, Kamal Haddad, finance professor, and Chee Chow, accounting professor, have had the following paper accepted for the Journal of Management Inquiry, “Are Articles in Management Journals Necessarily of Higher Quality?”

Victoria Krivogorsky, associate accounting professor, has been officially appointed as a chair of the Theses Committee (ACCTG 799) for her student, David Oei. After Oei successfully defended his theses, the two collaborated and produced a manuscript titled "How the German Board Structure Affects Companies' Decision-Making.” This paper has been accepted for two presentations: the 5th International Conference on Business Management to be held in Athens, Greece on July 2-3, 2007 and Academy of International Business Annual conference to be held at Indianapolis on June 25-28, 2007.

The Gallup Management Journal will run a story on William Baker’s research program (along with Jim Sinkula at the University of Vermont) on the effects of market orientation and learning orientation on organizational performance. Gallup will also be doing some preliminary research to determine if the research can be merged into Gallup's Human Sigma consulting program.

Martha Kennedy, IDS lecturer, has an article entitled, "Mid-Autumn Festival, 1982" that will be published in the June edition of the Business Communication Quarterly (BCQ) in the "About Teaching" section. This particular issue of BCQ focuses on teaching abroad.
NEW EMPLOYEES
Caryn Kerr has recently accepted an offer to become a regular member of the IDS staff. Caryn has worked as a temporary hire since last fall. She received her AS degree from Grossmont College and has 18 years of experience managing physical therapy offices located in Point Loma and La Jolla.

Editor’s Note: Faculty in the College of Business Administration have been earning a reputation among their peers for their research on a wide variety of business practices. In each issue of Inside Business, we tout the latest publications, presentations and awards by our faculty in the “Faculty and Staff News” section. Compiled here is a small sampling to demonstrate how our faculty are providing “Leadership for the Global Marketplace,” specifically through their research into international business practices.

Lynn Shore, along with J.G. Wu, P.W. Hom, L.E. Tetrick, L. Jia, C. Li and J. Song, co-wrote a piece “The Norm of Reciprocity: Scale development and validation in the Chinese context,” which was published in Management and Organization Review.

Massoud Saghafi, Matt Aistrich and Don Sciglimpaglia co-authored a portion of a book entitled, “Industrial Marketing Management.” Their contribution to the May 2006 publication was titled “Strategic Business Marketing Developments in the New Europe: Retrospect and Prospect.”

Kuntara Pukthuanthong-Le, along with Fayez Elayan and Lawrence Rose, wrote a piece on “Global Equity and Debt Market Responses to Sovereign Credit Rating Announcements,” which was featured in the Global Finance Journal.

Murray Jennex was the keynote speaker at the Australian Conference on Knowledge Management and Intelligent Decision Support in Melbourne , Australia in December 2006. His speech was titled “Defining Knowledge Management Success: Integrating the Doing and the Knowing.”

Don Sciglimpaglia and Massoud Saghafi co-authored a proceedings paper for the 35th EMAC Conference in Athens, Greece in May 2006. The paper was titled “Social Responsibility at the Level of the Small to Mid-Size Business: Corruption in Global Markets and its Impact on Company Strategy and Practice.”

William Sterk, Kamal Haddad and A. Wu presented on “The Financial Management Practices of Taiwanese Firms” at the Western Decision Sciences Institute meetings in March 2006.

Lori Ryan presented a speech on “Corporate Governance and Business Ethics in Brazil and the United States” at the annual meeting of the International Association for Business and Society held in Merida, Mexico in March 2006.
Carmen Bianchi and Sanford Ehrlrich co-authored “Winners Make it Happen, Losers Let it Happen,” which was written about an interview with Leonard Lavin, founder of Alberto-Culver Corporation. The piece was published in the Family Business Review in December 2006.

Chee Chow, J. Deng, and S. Yuen co-wrote an article on “The Adequacy of Information Decision-Making in China’s Business Enterprises: An Exploratory Study,” which was featured in the International Journal of Accounting, Auditing and Performance Evaluation.

Kamal Haddad, Chee Chow and William Sterk co-authored an article tilted “Capital Budgeting Practices of Chinese Firms,” which was featured in the proceedings of the Western Decision Sciences Institute Conference in March 2005.

Victoria Krivogorsky presented on “Interaction Effects of Country Specific Characteristics and Internal Corporate Governance Mechanisms on Profitability” at the Academy of International Business Annual Conference in 2006.

Janie Chang and S. Yen co-authored an article on “The Effects of Moral Development and Adverse Selection Conditions on Managers’ Project Continuance Decisions: A Study in the Pacific-Rim Region.” The article appeared in the 2007 Journal of Business Ethics.
Theophilus Addo, Chee Chow and J. Leu co-wrote an article on “B2B E-Commerce in the United States, Europe, and Japan: A Comparative Study,” which appeared in the Journal of the Academy of Business and Economics.

Marie Flatley, Ray Lesikar and Kathryn Rentz co-authored a chapter titled “Techniques of Cross-cultural Communication” in the book Business Communication: Making Connections in a Digital World.
Sean Sehyun Yoo, along with J. Choi and S. Park, wrote a piece on “The Value of Outside Directors: Evidence from Corporate Governance Reform in Korea” that will be featured in the forthcoming Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis. |
