Ely Receives 2006 Faculty Monty Award
Finance Professor David Ely has been named this year’s CBA recipient of the Alumni Award for Outstanding Contribution to the University.
Professor Ely has been one of the most productive and involved faculty within his department, the college and the university for the past 20 years. As one of his nominators said, “He has a reputation as a voice of reason, with a calming spirit and yet a passion for detail and accuracy. Any faculty member who has come into contact with Professor Ely is quickly overwhelmed by his knowledge, innovation, thoughtfulness and ethical approach.”
Professor Ely is recognized as an outstanding teacher. He has taught a wide range of courses at various levels within the Finance Department, and has served as an advisor on numerous master’s degree theses. Around the college he has served on the Strategic Planning Committee, Professional Development Committee and Business Instructional Computing Council. His work with the university has brought him to the University Senate, Senate Executive Committee and Western Association of School and Colleges (WASC) Coordinating Committee.
He has a productive and consistent research record and has published over 20 articles in revered publications, including Review of Financial Economics, Journal of Financial Services Research and International Review of Financial Analysis. He has had a continuing record of scholarship in terms of new research projects and professional meeting presentations for organizations such as the Western Economics Association and Financial Management Association.

He is always happy to step forward and provide leadership to make significant contributions to the college,” a nominator said. “David is highly respected by his colleagues for providing wisdom, level-headed thinking and insights into whatever he does.
