Network with Business Alumni Chapter

By Jerry Dunaway,
Alumni Chapter Vice President of Marketing and Communications

San Diego State has and continues to produce the largest educated workforce of all the schools in the area. Half of the graduates leaving SDSU remain in the region, and SDSU alumni occupy half of the major professional labor sectors in the county, such as accounting, engineering and nursing. SDSU has kept a pulse on the changing educational needs of the regional labor markets, and it recognizes and adjusts to these changes very well. Whether it is programs in biotechnology, international business, or sports management, if you haven’t noticed, State is climbing the charts every year in providing some of the best graduates in the country to work in these fields.

As SDSU continues to develop and improve its high-quality programs, alumni will continue to dominate in all areas of San Diego’s educated workforce. Among this workforce, SDSU provides a common link between individuals to foster opportunities for personal and professional business development by allowing alumni to be able to more easily reach out and meet others in the region. We at the Business Alumni Chapter of the SDSU Alumni Association envision a world-class regional network matched by no other that harnesses our alumni’s unique strength in the workforce. With the abundance of SDSU alumni here in San Diego, this network will be a powerful resource to facilitate better connections between local businessmen and women.

For just an additional $5 above the Alumni Association membership, the Business Alumni Chapter membership can connect you to local professionals by providing members a mutual yet confidential means to contact each other. In addition, the Chapter hosts networking opportunities through events in the area, and we think these events are also just a fun excuse to get fellow Aztecs together talking about old times and new experiences. We also provide training workshops focused at improving your skills to develop and maintain connectivity in and around your personal and professional life. Our next event is The Art of Networking on April 26th, 6:00 PM at the Aztec Athletic Center, and there you will learn basic skills to make the best of each of your business contacts. The event will feature panel discussions with experts in the field of networking and practical application sessions to employ what you will learn. Please see the website below for further information on this informative event and how to make reservations.

There are literally tens of thousands of alumni running the industries in the area, yet there is not an existing venue to link them after they leave the campus. Although they fill a solid majority of the positions out there, you may not know they are alumni unless you see a diploma on the wall. The Business Alumni Chapter is working to change this and create that opportunity to connect alumni with each of us in the area by reconnecting them to SDSU and the Alumni Association. This will take time to create, and there are many of you out there we need to reach out to and present this opportunity. But we believe it is an opportunity that will enhance productivity regionally and business output externally. You worked hard to call San Diego State your Alma matter, and this is an opportunity to continue to benefit from that hard work. Be a part of this opportunity!

The Business Alumni Chapter is your connection to San Diego businesses!
