SDSU/IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance
is Now Open

Tax season is here and to assist low-income taxpayers, the College of Business Administration’s Accounting Department has developed the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program (VITA). This free program is designed for SDSU faculty, staff, students, family and residents of the San Diego area who make less than $40,000 a year.

Volunteers are SDSU students who have been trained and certified by the IRS to prepare tax returns. These students will prepare federal and California income tax returns for anyone meeting the guidelines. The service is provided on a first-come, first-served basis and the returns are prepared while the taxpayer waits.

Todd Britt, an accounting major at SDSU, said that the volunteers use a program called TaxWise and that generating the tax return could takes about an hour. “The experience at VITA has been very rewarding because I would like to become a CPA when I graduate,” said Britt.

VITA is open every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in room 113 in the Business Administration building until April 9th. For more information visit the VITA website at http://vita.sdsu.edu.
