Russell and Baker Join Journal of Advertising
Editorial Board

Marketing professors, CristelRussell and William Baker, have been named “outstanding reviewers for the Journal of Advertising” and have been asked to join the journal’s editorial board.

The Journal of Advertising is one of the top journals in advertising and marketing. It has a review board made up of ad hoc reviewers and editorial members. Cristel Russell and William Baker have been asked to join the editorial review board because of their great work as ad hoc reviewers. They would be joining current member of the board and SDSU marketing professor, Mickey Belch.

Michael and George Belch Speak at
Imagine Conference in Las Vegas

Brothers Michael and George Belch, both professors of Marketing, spoke at the 2005 Imagine ICBA Retail Conference and Expo. For the last 77 years the Independent College Bookstore Association (ICBA) has been the premier organization supporting institutional bookstores. The Belch’s discussed Integrated Marketing Communication (IMC) and their book, Advertising and Promotion: An Integrated Marketing Communications Perspective, the number one selling textbook on advertising.

New Managing Director for
International Business Center Named

The Center for International Business Education and Research (CIBER) has named Mark Ballam, formerly the associate director of CIBER at the Georgia Institute of Technology, as its new managing director.

The CIBER program supports SDSU’s undergraduate International Business major. The major, offered jointly by the College of Arts & Letters and the College of Business Administration has risen to an all-time high ranking of seventh in U.S. News and World Report’s “America’s Best Colleges 2005” list of international business majors. With more than 700 students, the program is widely recognized for offering the first transnational, triple-degree programs in the country (one with universities in Mexico and Canada, the other with universities in Mexico and Chile). The Institute for International Education also has honored the program as the best study abroad program in the country – in any area of study.

Ballam has worked for Georgia Tech’s CIBER since 1996. He was responsible for managing its federal grant budget and was directly responsible for planning and implementing the center’s detailed strategic vision. “I'm extremely impressed with SDSU's commitment to the CIBER program and the university's international business program overall,” Ballam said. “I look forward to building on SDSU's hard-earned accomplishments by working across disciplines to further integrate global learning into the curriculum while growing SDSU CIBER's outreach to the business community.”

Associate Dean Honored for Community Service

Community service is the name of the game for Jim Lackritz, who received an award for outstanding community service involvement from the San Diego District Tennis Association on January 21st. Lackritz, professor of Information and Decision Systems and associate Dean of the Graduate Division, is an accomplished tennis player. Since moving to San Diego in 1977, he has been ranked nationally in singles and was in the top 10 in doubles three times. Lackritz was vice president of the SDDTA in 1998 and then became president in 2000 until he left his post in 2004.

Brown Hosts Real Estate Investment Risk Seminar

The San Diego Chapter of Certified Commercial Investment Members (CCIM) and San Diego State University’s Real Estate and Land Use Institute (REULI) presented “Commercial and Investment Real Estate Risk Analysis” on March 29.The seminar covered the aspects of probability and risk measures using real estate data. Roger J. Brown, RELUI director of research who conducted the seminar, said, “Real estate risk models are misunderstood and underused. With data now plentiful we have an opportunity to increase understanding about the concept of risk in real estate investing.”

Baker and Sinkula Published in
Marketing Science Journal

William Baker and Jim Sinkula recently published an article in the Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, a top journal in the field of marketing. The article entitled “Environmental Marketing Strategy and Competitive Advantage: Measuring and Modeling Enviropreneurialism,” shows a relationship between environpreneurial activity and organizational behavior.

Ledwith Appointed to Syndey Kimmel Cancer Center

The Sydney Kimmel Cancer Center appointed James Ledwith to its Board of Trustees. Ledwith specializes in public companies and nonprofits. He has 35 years of accounting experience and is a member of the adjunct faculty for the Graduate School of Public Health and the School of Accountancy. Ledwith will serve a three year term along with the two other newly appointees.

Dalbey Visits International Program Site

Richard Dalbey, IDS faculty, recently visited the College's International Business exchange program at the Universidade do Minho, Braga, Portugal, where he met with faculty and staff to discuss international business exchanges and multiple-degree programs. Dalbey has visited several of our exchange program sites over the years including those in Buenos Aires, Argentina; Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia; Rio de Janeiro and Curitiba, Brazil. Says Dalbey, "I often travel to parts of the world where the College has exchange programs -- I enjoy meeting our university partners and being a connection for them to San Diego -- our presence in these countries is important. On my visit to our program at Domingo Savio Universidad Privada in Bolivia two years ago, I spoke to an assembly of 500 students, faculty, and staff. They were quite interested in SDSU and life in our part of the world."
