Warwick Family Donates $100,000 Toward Scholarships for Real Estate
Students
The Warwick family of Bonita has pledged $100,000
toward scholarships for students in the Colleges Real Estate
Program. The pledge was made by Ruth Warwick in honor of her late
husband, George, who was actively involved in various aspects of
the local real estate market. Their daughter, Carol Thomas, is currently
a student in the real estate program.
This is a most generous donation that will enable deserving
students to attend SDSU, said Dean Gail Naughton. The
Warwick family has a history of helping SDSU students and we are
fortunate they are continuing that tradition by supporting our real
estate program.
For more than 40 years, the College has been educating
students in a program that includes Southern Californias only
comprehensive undergraduate real estate degree. The vision is to
create a ready-day-one program for students who aspire to become
leaders within the industry. This includes: 1) a restructured curriculum
to prepare students for todays and tomorrows employment
opportunities; and 2) an expanded research component that analyzes
emerging trends and provides thoughtful leadership on real estate
matters of community importance.
In November 2004, The McMillin Companies donated $1.5 million and
challenged others to step-up and contribute to the program. Since
then, Grubb & Ellis/BRE Commercial and Barratt American, Inc.
have made pledges totaling $150,000.
Our family was delighted to learn of the $1.5
million McMillin gift and how it was being used to support the real
estate program, Thomas said. We wanted to respond with
a gift of our own that would directly impact a students ability
to attend SDSU. I have had such a great experience in the real estate
program and I know that more students will be able to benefit if
enough capital is raised. Thomas is scheduled to graduate
in May with a B.S. in Business Administration.
