Master of Business Administration (MBA) Degree Requirements
Students Entering Fall 2008

Curriculum Overview

Students with no prior business coursework will complete a 48-unit program of study.  A student with an academic background in business may be able to complete the degree requirements in less than 48 units.  A minimum of 30 units is required for the degree.

1. Core Courses (3-21 units)
These seven core courses provide a solid foundation in each of the key business disciplines.  One or more of these may be waived by the Graduate Programs Office if a student has completed an equivalent course at an AACSB-accredited university within the past 5 years and earned a grade of ‘B’ or higher in that course.  A maximum of 18 units of core courses may be waived.

BA 650.– Financial Reporting and Analysis I

BA 651 – Organizational Behavior

BA 652 – Statistical Analysis

BA 653 – Managerial Economics

BA 655 – Marketing

BA 662 – Operations Management

BA 665 – Financial Management I

2. Corporate Responsibility: Legal, Ethical and Social Issues in Business theme course (3 units)
These courses aim to help students develop a deep understanding and appreciation of the legal, ethical and social context in which management decisions are made. Consideration is given to businesses’ legal, social and ethical responsibilities to internal and external stakeholders such as stockholders, employees, customers, and the communities where the corporation does business.

Choose ONE of the following courses.

ACCTG 681 – Seminar in Regulatory and Management Controls 

FIN 604 – Legal Environment for Executives

IDS 755 – Information Systems Security Management

MGT 722 – Seminar in Business Ethics and Social Institutions

MGT 746 – Seminar in Corporate Governance

3. Management of Technology Issues in Business theme course (3 units)
These courses aim to development an understanding of the key issues and trends in business’ use of technology and data, information, and knowledge for decision making and competitive advantage. 

Choose ONE of the following courses.

IDS 688 – Information Systems in Organizations

IDS 691 – Decision Support Systems

4. Electives (18 units)
With 18 units of electives, students have the flexibility to customize their program of study to match their career objectives.  While a broad program may be the best choice for some students, options exist to specialize in Accountancy, Athletics and Fitness Management, Electronic Business, Entrepreneurship, Finance, Health Services Administration, Information Systems, International Business, Management, Marketing, Supply Chain Management, and Real Estate. 

5. Culminating Experience (3 units)
Before a student can graduate, he/she must demonstrate a mastery of the skills and theories taught throughout the program. The capstone course, BA 795 - Integrative Business Analysis, allows students to apply research and analytical skills to real-world business situations by engaging in a consulting project with a local company or non-profit organization.  Students also have the option of completed a thesis.
