Short,
Ph.D.
Professor, Finance
Dr. James Short's background includes over 30 years of academic
teaching experience in real estate and urban land economics, public
sector experience in housing finance policy, and a diverse portfolio
of private sector consulting projects. He received his Bachelors
degree in Finance in 1966; his Masters degree in Urban Land
Economics in 1967; and his Ph.D. degree in Urban Land Economics
in 1973 all from UCLA. He spent three years as a Research
Economist at the Federal Home Loan Bank Board in Washington, D.C.,
before joining the faculty at San Diego State University. At SDSU
he teaches both graduate and undergraduate courses in real estate,
land economics, and land use policy. In 2003 he was awarded the
title of Professor Emeritus.
Dr. Short has written extensively on real estate and land use issues.
His record includes numerous published journal articles, research
monographs, and presentations before professional associations.
Articles have appeared in such journals as: Journal of Real Estate
Finance & Economics, Real Estate Review, Journal of the American
Planning Association, The Appraisal Journal, Urban Land, and
Urban Affairs Quarterly. He also has co-authored a book on
rural land markets, The Market for Rural Land: Trends, Issues,
Policies. He is Co-Director of the California State University
System Real Estate and Land Use Institute at SDSU, Director of the
College of Business Administration Real Estate Internship Program,
and a member of the American Real Estate and Urban Economics Association,
and American Real Estate Society.
