Patrick Colwell is the embodiment of the phrase “student-athlete” with the emphasis on “student”. “I intended to come to SDSU solely as a student, but I was fortunate enough to get an opportunity to go out and solidify a spot on the baseball team,” said the Aztec third baseman. “What originally brought me to SDSU was the business program.”
Colwell, a native of Lakewood, California, was one of 256 student-athletes to be honored at an annual spring awards banquet for his academic achievement. In order to be recognized, these Aztecs must maintain at 3.0 cumulative GPA or a 3.2 semester GPA. It was the third time that Colwell has been given this honor.
A finance/real estate major, Colwell has gone into financial advising at AXA Equitable since his graduation in May, 2011. He chose his major because he was “attracted to numbers” and he was fascinated with the prospect of “saving money and investing it.”
As for his most memorable experience at SDSU, Colwell participated with the rest of the SDSU baseball team in what he described as “one of the hardest things I have done.” In the fall of 2010, the team completed a two-day Navy SEAL training regimen. Reports Colwell: “The team got to see how far we could push ourselves and to know that end-point is actually a pretty cool feeling.”
