Aztec back-up defensive end, Jesse Ben-Ron, made the SDSU football squad the hard way – he had to try out for the team as a walk-on rather than through the traditional recruitment/scholarship mode.
Ben-Ron, a red-shirt freshman and pre-business major, came to SDSU not only to try out for the football team, but also because he felt that it was “best California State University school academically”. “It is also less than 100 miles away from my hometown of Anaheim, California which is convenient,” he said.
Since Ben-Ron’s primary reason for coming to SDSU was to try out for the football program, he was not aware of the University’s well-respected business school, but came to choose a business major after discussing it with his parents. “A business degree is very valuable and applicable for life after college,” he said. “I was unaware that SDSU is a highly regarded business institution until after I declared – I just got lucky in that aspect.”
While Ben-Ron hasn’t decided on professional path after college, his plans include an M.B.A. and a “good career in the business realm.”
