FACULTY POSITIONS

The School of Accountancy at San Diego State University (SDSU) invites nominations and applications for a tenure-track position at the assistant, associate, or full professor level for Fall 2008. Preference is given to those with a specialization in accounting information systems, audit, managerial, financial, tax or international accounting. Teaching duties for an audit/systems position may include courses or course modules in systems, auditing, or assurance. Teaching duties for a managerial position may include courses or course modules in managerial. A financial accounting position may involve courses or course modules in external reporting, financial statement analysis, accounting theory or advanced financial topics.  Teaching duties for a tax position may include courses or course modules in tax. An international position may relate to any of the topic areas in accounting: systems, audit, financial, tax or managerial. Courses will be at both the bachelors and masters levels. Applicants should have completed a Ph.D. or DBA in accounting or business administration by August 2008.  Applicants with equivalent degrees in other disciplines with relevant teaching, research, or work experience may also apply. Appointments at advanced rank require commensurate experience.

Preference is given to candidates with a multi-disciplinary and integrative approach to accounting.  Candidates should be comfortable with community outreach efforts that might include student internships, undergraduate research, and experiential learning. 

SDSU values both quality teaching and quality scholarship. The accounting program is highly integrated and non-traditional, including faculty collaboration in teaching assignments. Applicants should be able to employ technology and a variety of effective pedagogies including collaborative learning, integrative sub-disciplines, and interactive discussions.  Applicants should be able to work with students from diverse cultural backgrounds. Teaching or business experience, professional certification, and demonstrated research accomplishments are desirable.

The College of Business Administration enrolls approximately 6,000 undergraduate business majors and over 700 graduate students pursuing both the MBA and Master of Science degrees.  The School of Accountancy offers the Master of Science in Accountancy degree. The School enrolls over 500 undergraduate and 100 graduate students. The Accountancy faculty includes thirteen tenure-track faculty members, six emeritus professors, one full-time lecturer, and several part-time lecturers.

The position is available starting August 2008. The position is contingent upon State funding. Consideration of applicants will begin immediately and will be reviewed on an ongoing basis until the position is filled.  Representatives will be available at the Chicago AAA Annual Meeting for interviews. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
