SDSU’s Charles W. Lamden School of Accountancy has named Dr. Damon M. Fleming, as the Ernst & Young Faculty Fellow for 2009/2010. Fleming, a native San Diegan earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in accounting from SDSU. In May, Fleming received an Outstanding Faculty Contribution award as “an ideal colleague and a true team player.” He becomes the first recipient of the Ernst & Young fellowship and was awarded the honor based on his outstanding research, dedication to the university and inventive teaching methodology. “Higher education is an important area of focus for Ernst & Young’s corporate responsibility,” said Jim Givens, a tax partner from the Los Angeles office. “We’ve been very pleased with the high quality of students we recruit from SDSU. A number of our partners are SDSU alumni and we’d like to see that number grow.” The Fellowship was made possible by combining gifts totaling $50,000 from Ernst & Young’s professionals, retired partners and matching funds from the Ernst & Young Foundation. SDSU accounting alumni and Ernst & Young partners Givens (’90), Ray Dittamore (’66) and Mike Howard (’96) were the driving force behind the funding of the fellowship.
