The Charles W. Lamden School of Accountancy at San Diego State University (SDSU) is the first accounting program in the California State University (CSU) System to offer a BMACC program. The BMACC program will allow students to simultaneously receive both a B.S. degree in Business Administration (Accounting Emphasis), and a M.S. degree in Accountancy upon successful completion of 141 semester hours of study. Most California students are already choosing a path to CPA licensure that requires 150 semester units of coursework, which will be state law on January 1, 2014. Most students graduating with an undergraduate degree in accounting from the CSU system have well over 120 semester hours. SDSU will encourage these students to take the additional units as graduate units, enabling a student to receive a Master's degree in accountancy. The 141 unit requirement for the dual degree saves a student 9 units from a typical BS and MSA degree program. Given the majority of students already have the additional nine units needed, the BMACC program allows students potential time for internship opportunities or study abroad opportunities. Allowing concurrent enrollment in both programs should reduce the students’ total time at the university.
