Greetings from San Diego State University!

Mark J. Ballam

I'm very pleased to announce that the Center for International Business Education and Research at San Diego State University is again selected to be a national center of excellence and awarded $1.6 million by the U.S. Department of Education. This designation, coupled with the support of SDSU, marks the beginning of several exciting new programs distinguished by a commitment to academic excellence.

In 1989, SDSU was one of the first universities to be designated as a national resource center. Soon thereafter SDSU’s International Business program was launched. Today, it is one of the largest in the country and is ranked #11 by U.S. News and World Report (2010).

While SDSU CIBER is located in the business school, our mission is to further U.S. trade and competitiveness by involving programs throughout the university and business community. Our initiatives for 2010-2014, encompass an integrated program that includes foreign business language assessment and education, high-impact international business curriculum, high-quality basic and applied research, outreach to the community, and several initiatives which build on multiple areas to achieve synergy.

Another cause for celebration is that 2010 marks our College of Business Administration’s 55th year of educating leaders for the global marketplace. The business school first began to take shape in 1955, when it embarked on an accreditation process through the Association to Advance the Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International). By 1959, the College of Business became the first California State University business college to become accredited, joining a small group of business schools such as Harvard, Northwestern, Cornell and Stanford. Today, nearly 600 AACSB-accredited schools exist worldwide, of which San Diego State’s College of Business Administration is one of the largest.

Today, we continue to offer programs with global impact. You’re invited to review some of the many accomplishments of our faculty, students, and programs highlighted in this publication. At SDSU we’re very proud of our successful history and sustained commitment to high quality teaching and research. We look forward to working with you as we continue to serve as a national resource to advance U.S. trade and competitiveness.
