Dr. Michael R. Cunningham has been named dean of SDSU’s College of Business Administration. The announcement came on April 22, 2011 after a five-month search that included over 70 candidates.
Dr. Cunningham will succeed Dr. Gail Naughton who will step down from her position as dean to concentrate on her role as chairman/CEO of Histogen Inc., a biotech organization she founded in 2007. Dr. Cunningham’s tenure as dean will commence on June 20, 2011.
Dr. Cunningham has been a member of SDSU’s management faculty since 2005 and a College of Business advisory board member since 2006. Prior to his appointment as dean, he was the founder, chair and CEO of Cunningham Graphics International, a company he built from 11 employees to just under 2000 in 12 years. After taking the company public and listing it on the NASDAQ stock exchange in 1998, the organization was purchased by a Fortune 500 company, ADP in 2000.
Dr. Cunningham earned his Ph.D. and master’s degrees from New York University (NYU) and earned his undergraduate degree in business administration from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
In addition to his service to the College, Dr. Cunningham is an NYU trustee and serves on several committees, as well as numerous other boards and committees both in San Diego and New York. He was the New Jersey Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year in 1999 and received the British American Chamber of Commerce Entrepreneurial award in 2000.
