Dr. Bruce Reinig Named Outstanding Faculty
Contributor for 2010

  Bruce

Department chair and professor of information and decision systems (IDS), Dr. Bruce Reinig, was named SDSU’s 2010 Alumni Association Award for Outstanding Faculty Contributor (known as the “Faculty Monty”) for the College of Business Administration.

Each year this prestigious award honors an exceptional faculty member from each of SDSU’s seven colleges, the Imperial Valley campus and one employee from SDSU Library and Information Access. Reinig was presented with a Monty Award statuette during the annual All-University Convocation by SDSU provost, Dr. Nancy Marlin on August 26, 2010.

A native of Iowa, Reinig earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration at Northeast Missouri State University (now Truman State University) in Kirksville, Missouri and earned his Ph.D. in management information systems at the University of Arizona. He came to SDSU in 2000 and became chair of the IDS department in 2006.

During his career, Reinig has won numerous awards and honors for both his teaching and research including:

  • Outstanding Faculty Contribution from the College of Business Administration in 2004 and 2007.

  • Most Influential Faculty Member 2003 and 2004 (as chosen by the top undergraduate student in IDS).

  • Ranked among the top 100 authors for publishing in the premiere information systems academic journals from 1990 to 2009

  • Ranked seventh worldwide for publications on the topic of group support systems (GSS) from 2000 to 2005.

  • Best Paper Award at the Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences, 1995, 2002 and 2007.

“Bruce Reinig has set the standard for teaching excellence and has established himself as one of the leading researchers in the college,” said Dr. Gail Naughton, dean of the College of Business Administration. “As department chair, he has made substantial gains in alumni relations, involving the local business community in assessment, class participation, and fund raising. He has done a terrific job of bringing his department together to accomplish their strategic goals including the development of a new Master’s degree in Information Systems and revitalizing their undergraduate curriculum. Bruce is very well respected by his faculty and students alike and is a trusted leader in the college.”
