You don’t need to be a business major to join SDSU’s Enviro-Business Society – you just need to be a concerned student looking to making a positive environmental impact on the SDSU campus, in the community, and in the business world. The objective of the Enviro-Business Society is to make a “positive environmental impact and work toward a sustainable future through ecology, ethics and economics,” said Bree Baisden, communications officer for the group. This focus has led to the groups nickname, e3. Currently with 200 members, e3 looks for effective ways to promote environmentally-friendly products and procedures that are also economically sound. For example, students are currently examining ideas on how to bring locally grown food to SDSU via a farmer’s market. Use of locally produced food stimulates economic growth within the community and saves the inevitable CO² emissions that are caused by transporting food from other parts of the world. This November has been an especially busy month for the group having staged a Bike Crusade on the SDSU campus to show support for a proposed bike lane for the University on the 8th (“burn fat, not oil”) and sponsoring its first-ever Green Career Forum on the 12th. “The organization’s unprecedented commitment to the environment and sustainability has made an impact at the University and the surrounding communities,” said Baisden. “With the increasing student involvement and revolutionary thinking, there’s no stopping e3’s efforts for a better future.” |
