Dr. Chung-Herrera Recognized as “Professor of
the Year”
Dr. Beth Chung-Herrera was recognized as the “2008 Professor of the Year” by the SDSU chapter of Pi Beta Phi Fraternity for Women. Chung-Herrera was honored at the Arrows and Angels Awards reception held on November 3, 2008.
The award is given to the professor that most exemplifies the values associated with educators who meet and exceed the highest of standards set for educators. These standards include a commitment to academic excellence, leadership, and campus involvement with their students.
Chung-Herrera was chosen from a large pool of SDSU professors who are nominated by the 180 women of the SDSU chapter of Pi Beta Phi. This pool of nominations is eventually narrowed to the five most outstanding faculty members, who are then voted on by fraternity members. The choice of Chung-Herrera was a nearly unanimous selection.
The Angels and Arrows tradition was started two years ago by the SDSU chapter of Pi Beta Phi which has been a part of the University since 1949. Pi Beta Phi currently has 130 undergraduate chapters throughout the United States and Canada.
