About CAL Council
The College of Arts and Letters Student Council (CAL Council) is one
of the seven (7) College Councils which acts as a liaison between student
organizations and SDSU student government (Associated Students). CAL is
the largest college council representing over twenty active student groups
and clubs on campus.
The Council was designed to help facilitate the role of active clubs
on campus. CAL council serves to provide funding for participating clubs
and their members by working together with Associated Students (A.S.).
These funds can be used for many diverse purposes. Clubs can engage guest
speakers, send representatives to conferences and/or pay registration fees,
purchase supplies and banners, or advertise meetings with flyers, etc.
Student representatives of CAL council meet weekly to discuss policies and negotiate decisions. Information is communicated and distributed between A.S., the Council, and the student organizations. The Council offers a brief educational series including topics such as club recruitment, resume building, and career planning. Guest speakers are welcome and included in the planned agenda. The meetings are open to students, faculty, staff, and the public.
The Council participates in both on- and off-campus events such as Spring Fiesta and the C.O.R.E. Project (College Outreach, Recruitment, and Education Project). CAL Council offers opportunities to develop leadership skills and become active members of the student community. It is a great way to become involved and familiar with the university, the College of Arts and Letters, and student organizations on campus.
