Training Techniques
|
|||
|
There
are many techniques that, if used properly, will result in the increased
gymnastic ability of the horse. One common practice is called "longeing". This exercise is done with the handler being on the ground. |

Longeing a horse
|

|
The horse walks, trots and canters in an approximate
20 meter circle around the handler. This exercise is used for training purposes,
such as improving the necessary
qualities (rhythm, balance, relaxation, forwardness,
collection) needed for a good dressage horse. If a horse is coming off of
a lameness, it is a good way to judge if the horse has fully recovered.
Sometimes it is valuable for accessing how well the horse is moving, i.e.
is your training improving the quality of your horses' gaits? |
