my story...

bible

In 1978, I became a born-again Christian and joined a "spirit-filled" non-denominational church. I had a burning desire to preach the gospel. After all, if the good news of Jesus was really true, I thought, then everyone needed to hear it and become a Christian, too. So, in 1979, I joined an internatioanl evangelism orgainzation called Youth With A Mission, which at that time had over one hundred missions training centers around the world.

After completing the initial six month training classes, I led and directed volunteer missionaries and traveld to over 35 countries in Asia, Central Amerca and Europe seeking to "save" people. I loved experiencing new places and meeting wonderful people, some of whom are still my friends today. But inside, the doubts about the validity of Christianity that had always existed never left me. I took everything by faith, which the Bible describes as certainty about "things not seen."

So I took a step back and re-examined what I believed. I took a fresh look at the credibility, validity and authority of the Bible. And soon I saw the absurd foundation my faith was based on. It took a couple of years, a lot of thought, reading, discussion, and argument, but I finally freed myself from this destructive belief system. But mostly I felt heartache as I left all my friends - I did not know a single non-Christian at this time - and everything that had become "home" to me and moved to a new city to start a completely new life. I found little encouragement during this process, and I had to dig very deeply to find infromation contrary to evangelical Christian beliefs. That's why I wanted to start this website: to help those who are also questioning their belief in Jesus and say, "Yes, here is some help along the path."
