SN: Student Nominee (that's you)
TN: Traineeship
PC: Personal Consultant, your contact at Aiesec San Diego
I2: Insight II, the Aiesec matching Database
How does the matching process work?
Every SN will be assigned a personal consultant (PC) - a member of Aiesec San Diego that will be your main contact throughout your Aiesec journey. If you have any questions along the way, please do not hesitate to contact your PC. They are there to provide good customer service to our SN's and make your Aiesec experience a stress-free experience.
Every SN will be asked to fill out an SN resume form. The SN form will ask you detailed questions about the traineeship you wish to participate in, including: proffered location of traineeship, desired time length of traineeship, and the fields of study and work in which you have experience in. This SN form will be used to enter your data into the Aiesec matching database (Insight II). Insight II (I2) contains all available SN's and all available traineeships (TN's). When a match is made between a SN and a TN, the match is finalized in Insight II. Only your personal consultant will have access to I2. It is important to keep in close contact with your PC, if you believe you might be close to a match.
Since SN's do not have access to Insight II, Aiesec has implemented a searching database known as Aiesec Online (sorry, no Acronym). Aiesec online is an user-friendly database used by SN's to search for available traineeships. Users may search by destination country, field of work or length of traineeship. There are usually around 1500 traineeships available in the database at any given time. When you find a TN that interests you, you are able to send the TN manager any questions you may have about the traineeship to ensure that it fits your profile. If you feel that you are a good match for the traineeship and the traineeship manager is interested in you, you may contact your PC and ask to formally apply for the traineeship. Note: you should only apply for traineeships that you would be willing to except if offered.
Once you have been accepted to a traineeship, you PC will help you through the process of finding the correct visa and will even help you find the cheapest plane tickets. Our aim is to make the process of working abroad as easy as possible.
A large part of Aiesec's work abroad program is focused around cultural preparation. We understand how hard it can be to adjust to a new culture in a new country. Aiesec San Diego requires SN's to attend at least one culture preparation session. These sessions are designed to prepare the SN for culture shock and teach the SN how to deal with a cultural situation that he/she may not be accustomed to. These sessions are designed to be lively, informative, very interactive in nature and are applicable despite the SN's regional preference
.How can I help get matched quick and easy?
Aiesec is designed to send students abroad generally. That is Aiesec can not ensure a SN will be matched with a traineeship in a country of their choice. The more open a SN is to work in different areas of the world the easy and quicker the SN will be able to find a match. Also, an SN who is open to a number of different realms of work will also find that they have a greater chance of finding a match.
Be sure to come meet your PC at an Aiesec San Diego social event. You will receive e-mails from you PC regarding such events.
