Common Problems
Unable to find application message in Netscape
In order to connect to the PAC, Infodome, ITSnet, ROHAN, etc., it is necessary to have a TELNET application program running on the computer. (The program may not actually be named TELNET but it must perform the TELNET function of logging on to remote computers as a terminal.)
The Unable to find application message appears if the TELNET application is not installed on the computer, or if Netscape is not configured to use the TELNET program.
To install a TELNET application:
- Download the TELNET Software - Pay attention to where the software downloads!
- Double click on the .exe or the .sea file
- Follow the simple instructions to install the software
- Restart the machine
To get TELNET working with Netscape:
- Make sure the TELNET software is installed.
- Select Options/General Preferences, then select the Apps tab.
- Next to Telnet Application, click on the Browse button and find the TELNET application, or enter the full path and file name of the TELNET application residing on the computer.
Once Netscape is restarted, the TELNET application will start up automatically when the PAC, ITSnet, etc. is selected

Windows users
To use TELNET through AOL, two things are needed:
- A Winsock.DLL that is compatible with AOL.
- A TELNET program to run through America Online.
To find both of these files, go to keyword TELNET. The Winsock.DLL is downloaded by clicking on Go To Winsock Applications. The TELNET program can be downloaded by clicking on Go To Net Clients.
Once Winsock.DLL is downloaded, copy or move it to the \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory. Always remember to print the description of files being downloaded. Be sure to read the READ ME file that comes with the TELNET program. Once the Winsock and the TELNET programs are installed, sign on to America Online, minimize, and run the TELNET program.
