Setting up a Moderated Listserve on
mailman.sdsu.edu (A service of ROHAN)
for List Administrators

As List Administrator, a Listserve can be set up as moderated. (The default for new Listserves is unmoderated.)

Setting up a moderated list for a New Listserve

  1. Go to http://mailman.sdsu.edu/mailman/admin (This is the administrative links for configuring Listserves)
  2. Click on the appropriate list name and login with the List Administrator password.
  3. From the Configuration Categories, select General Options.
  4. Enter the email address for the list moderator in the appropriate value field.
  5. Click on the Submit your Changes button at the bottom of the screen.
  6. From the Configuration Categories, select Privacy options . . .
  7. Under Privacy options . . . click on Sender filters
  8. Select the Yes value to the option: By default, should new list member postings be moderated?
  9. Click on the Submit your Changes button at the bottom of the screen.

Changing a Listserve to a moderated list once there are already subscribers.

  1. Follow all of the steps above.
  2. From the Configuration Categories, select Membership Management.
  3. Under Membership Management, select Membership List.
  4. Under each existing subscriber in the Membership list, click on the mod button. This will convert existing subscribers to be moderated.
  5. Click on the Submit your Changes button at the bottom of the screen.
