vacation messages
If you will be unable to read your mail for awhile, you can set your ROHAN account
up to automatically Email a vacation message to anyone who sends
mail to your account.
To set up a vacation message on ROHAN, type:
rohan% vacation
A new file named .vacation.msg will be created for you
automatically, and the default message will appear on your screen, so that you
can edit it. Once you've made any changes to the file, write it and quit out of
the editor. The vacation program will then ask you if you want to
see and edit your new vacation message. When you have completed editing the file,
the vacation program creates a .forward file in
your account. This file contains the path name to your new vacation message.
After this file is created, the vacation message feature is enabled
and anyone who sends you a message will receive the newly created vacation message.
When the vacation program is enabled, it creates two new files
in your home directory: .vacation.pag and .vacation.dir.
These contain a list of people who sent you mail while you were gone. The messages
they sent you are also in your email inbox, but these let you know who received your
vacation message while you were out.
After you return from vacation, you will want to disable the vacation
message feature, type type:
rohan% vacation
The vacation program will ask you if you want to see and edit
your vacation file. If you answer n (no) to both of these
questions, the vacation program will ask if you want to remove
your .forward file. Answering y (yes) to this
question will disable the vacation message feature, and you will
receive Email in the normal way.
