terminal

Your terminal can be any one known to this system (last count over 400 different kinds), but you must make it known to the system what kind you are using. While logging in you will be asked:

Press RETURN for default terminal type.  TERM = (vt100)

Pressing the RETURN key will tell the system you are using a vt100. In general, most terminals in labs can be safely thought to be vt100s. If you were using a hp150 terminal you would answer:

Press RETURN for default terminal type.  TERM = (vt100)  hp150

A file containing a list of known terminal types can be viewed by typing:

rohan% less  /etc/terminals
