man (manual)
Most UNIX boxes which have sufficient disk storage keep their manuals on disk. UNIX traditionally has what are called the man pages. Most programs have a one-page manual entry, although in later years, some programs have come with fifty-page entries. To get a manual page for a particular program, Syntax is:
rohan% man programnamewhere programname is the name of the man page you wish.
The man pages are stored in different areas on disk relating to how they were installed on the system. man looks for MANPATH (printenv MANPATH) to know which areas to look at. The .login defines MANPATH. The following man page areas are on this system:
/usr/man standard system programs provided by Sun
/usr/lang/man compilers and related software licensed from Sun
/usr/local/man programs and packages added locally
/usr/local/x11r5/man X window software from MITSee also apropos
