forward

The forward function allows Email messages to be forwarded from a UNIX system to another system. This is done by creating a file named .forward in your home directory. The file should contain the Email address of where you would like the mail forwarded to. Usage example:

User fflintstone has an account on a Unix machine named bambam.bedrock.com, but wants to read his mail on the machine dino.bedrock.com. FFlintstone would log into the machine bambam, and create a file named .forward, which contained the line:

fflintstone@dino.bedrock.com

Now all the mail sent to the machine bambam will get passed along to the dino machine.

To stop the mail from being sent to the machine bambam, you will need to remove the previously created .forward file. Usage example:

rohan%rm  .forward

An alternative method of using the forward function without creating a file is shown in the following Usage example:

rohan%echo  yournewaddress  >  .forward

where you would insert whatever address that you wanted mail to be forwarded to as yournewaddress

Another option to consider is keeping a copy of the Email message at one address will sending another copy of the same Email message to a second or third address. To do this, the .forward file would need to be similar to the following Usage example:

\fflintstone@bambam.bedrock.com
fflintstone@dino.bedrock.com

where the first line will keep a copy of all mail messages received at the fflintstone@bambam.bedrock.com address (via the \ backlash), while the second line forwards a copy of all mail messages to another address (in this case - fflintstone@dino.bedrock.com).
