Basic ftp Commands

ascii

Sets the transfer mode for the transfer of an ASCII text file.

binary

Sets the transfer mode for the transfer of an executable program such as an application, graphics, or sound file.

cd

Changes directories.

cdup

Changes directories upward; moves back to the previous directory level.

dir

Shows the contents of the current directory.

ftp

Starts the file transfer protocol program.

get

Gets the specified file and downloads it to your or your host's computer.

get filename |more

Prints text files to your screen one screen at a time.

ls

Lists the current directory in short form.

ls -l

Lists the current directory in long form.

put

Puts the specified file and uploads it to your or your host's computer.

quit

Quits your ftp session.
