anonymous

anonymous ftp is a type of ftp that allows you to download files to your computer without being a registered user of the remote computer. Although anonymous ftp is an excellent way to retrieve files from a remote computer, not all systems make files available for anonymous ftp retrieval. Generally, if the remote computer offers anonymous ftp, the available files for downloading are located in the /pub directory. Usage example is:

rohan% ftp ftp.sdsu.edu
Connected to pandora.sdsu.edu.
