1.  Measurement as Quantifying

Text Box: When we measure an object, we are actually measuring some attribute about it, perhaps its weight, length, etc.  In this way, we are measuring a characteristic of the object by matching it with a standard unit, or copies of the unit, having that characteristic.

A measure is actually the number of copies of the unit being used to measure.  The number of units gives the measure of value of the characteristic associated with the characteristic.

For example, to measure one’s waistline, we count the number of inch (or centimeter) units that span the given object.
