Isabel Borrás has a D.E.S.S. in Instructional Technology from the University of Poitiers (France, 1987). She received her Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction, with an emphasis in Instructional Technology, from Louisiana State University (LSU, 1993). She was a finalist of the ACTFL-MLJ Emma Marie Birkmaier Award in 1994 and 1995 for her dissertation research dealing with the effects of subtitled video on oral communicative performance of college students of French learning with multimedia courseware.

Before joining the National Language Resource Center and the Department of Spanish at San Diego State University in 1996, Dr. Borrás was a Research Associate in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at Louisiana State University (1994-1995) and a Master Teacher in Technology in FL Education at Bennington College (1995-1996).

Dr. Borrás is also very familiar with the educational systems of two European countries, France and Spain, where she worked as a teacher for eleven years with various age groups, including adults, high school and elementary school students.

Her research and development interests include instructional design theory and application, teacher training, electronic hypertext writing, and the social and academic impact of emerging learning technologies.
