Patricia Huckle, Ph.D.

Professor Huckle received her BA degree from Ohio University in English; her MPA from the University of Washington, and her PhD from the University of Southern California in Urban Studies. She taught in the Women's Studies Department at SDSU from 1975 until 2003, with particular emphasis on legal issues, political movements, public policy issues such as affirmative action and employment rights of pregnant women, and is the author of Tish Sommers, Activist, and the Founding of the Older Women's League.She also developed a course on Science and Technology in Women's Lives, and taught WS530, International Feminist Movements.
Dr. Huckle has been Dean of North County Center, and Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Letters. She was elected Chair of the University Senate for three consecutive terms, 1998-2001. She has been the SDSU Fulbright Adviser since 2003.
Prof. Huckle was the College of Arts and Letters Distinguished Faculty (Alumni Assoc. Monty awards) for 1998; she was honored by Mortar Board for her service to the university (see tree and plaque south of the bookstore). She has also received grants for travel to Oaxaca, Mexico; University of Orebro, Sweden; and universities in China; she also participated in a workshop for NGO leaders in India. In 2009, Dr. Huckle was selected by the SDSU Honors Council to deliver the Henry Janssen Annual Last Lecture.
