Author Frank J. Irgang was born in Detroit and received degrees from Central Michigan University and the University of Michigan. He taught in public schools in Michigan five years before accepting a position at San Diego State University. During the 26 years as professor and department chairman, he wrote a number of articles for magazines and professional journals. Upon retirement, Dr. Irgang decided to write a novel about America as it was during colonial times when Europeans began pushing inland from the coast. To give readers a perception of reality about the territory, part of his several years of research for THE WYANDOTTE involved walking through each locale to get a sense of the land in its primeval state and the living conditions that existed during those turbulent times.
