Case Discussion Questions for August 05, 2004:


1) Can Freeport use the power given by the government to operate its business in Papua?

2) Should Freeport be concern to determine how best the indigenous peoples of Papua can assert their land claims, given that their traditional property rights have been violated?

3) Should Freeport return the rights of land to the Papua’s people? Let them decide the future of their land?

4) Should Freeport give social commitment and royalty distribution to Papua’s people?

5) Is this Contract of Work fair for the Utilitarian theory?

6) Who is responsible for the killing of Papua’s people? Is the company responsible?

7) Is it right to use violence to protect the business from riots or taking over?

8) Should Freeport respect the local beliefs that top of mountain is sacred for them and that Freeport should not shed off the peaks?

9) If there is no law in the host country for ‘tailings’, should Freeport follow that rules, or international and US rules?

10) Is Freeport obligated to clean-up the river?
