EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:

After meeting with each other for the first time we had all agreed we would like to raise money to donate towards Children’s Hospital of San Diego. Initially we had decided we were going to help organize a jog-a-thon for a local elementary school. This seemed like a great idea that would not only be fun, but would also generate a large donation for our designated charity. Unfortunately, due to our set time constraints we would be unable to organize anything before our completion date. We then moved on to our second option which was to organize a golf tournament donating all proceeds to Children’s Hospital. This idea worked much better with everyone’s schedules and enabled the entire group to involve friends and family. We all knew that organizing this event would be both complicated and time consuming, but the rewards it paid were immeasurable.

In setting up the golf tournament there were several tasks that needed to be completed. First we needed to find a golf course that would hold the event. Second we needed to coordinate with Vanessa Collier of Children’s Hospital in order for our event to be a success. Lastly we needed everyone in the group to find participants and sponsors for the event.

We worked with Sun Valley Golf Course located in La Mesa. The owner of the golf course, Mary Jane, was a great help. She worked diligently to accommodate our needs and was very flexible in order to meet our requests. She brought the price from $13 per participant, down to $8 dollars per participant, and provided supplies to use during the tournament. Vanessa of Children’s Hospital was also very helpful. She processed our paperwork as fast as she could, because she new we had a target date which was very close. She also helped in generating ideas which we had not thought of. Finally our group worked extremely hard to gather sponsors and find participants for the event.

We had several goals which we thought were vital in order for our event to be a triumph. Those goals were for each member to find at least two teams to participate and at least one sponsor for the event; donate a minimum of $600 to the Children’s Hospital of San Diego; and to make sure everyone had a great time.

We completed every one of our goals. We had 54 participants, which equaled out to 18 teams. That meant that each group member had reached the goal of entering two teams into the tournament. Each group member had also gone above and beyond in finding sponsor’s to donate to the event. We had over ten individuals and businesses sponsor the event. With each group member completing their assigned tasks we had exceeded our goal of donating $600 by a long shot. After reimbursing each group member for individual expenses and paying the golf course, we had over $1300 to donate to the San Diego Children’s Hospital. It made the tournament that much better that in raising $1300 everyone had an extremely fun time. By the end of the day we had received so many complements by participants, the golf course, and by Vanessa of Children’s Hospital. We were all very excited about the outcome of the event, and proud of everything we could do to help the children at Children’s Hospital of San Diego.
