Suppose you serve on the Board of Directors of Ben & Jerry's, a company with a clearly articulated social mission. The social mission is in part "[t]o operate the Company in a way that actively recognizes the central role that business plays in the structure of society by initiating innovative ways to improve the quality of life of a broad community - local, national, and international" (for the full statement of mission, visit http://www.benjerry.com/mission.html). You have joined the Board's Compensation Committee, and among other things your job as a Director/Compensation Committee member is to evaluate CEO performance.
Design a mechanism for assessing CEO performance relative to the social mission of Ben & Jerry's...and outline how you would 'sell' your recommendation to the Board.
