 Professor, Policy Studies Department. Teaches in the bilingual credential B/CLAD, MA Degree programs, and SDSU/CGU Doctoral program.

 

Background

Attended schools in Mexico City and East Los Angeles. Has lived in large urban centers and undertaken field research in Latin America and the United States. Since 1968, he has served as an instructor, professor, researcher and consultant to colleges and universities and development agencies. Specifically, he has taught courses at USC, UMASS, UCSC, and SDSU. In 1975 he became a faculty member of the Policy Studies Department at SDSU and has been involved in the CGU/SDSU Doctoral Program since 1982.

Activities/Interests/Plans

Areas of interests include educational and community development, organizational receptivity to change, bilingual desegregation, parent entitlement, and multicultural/critical pedagogy. All of these areas have an educational equity and action research focus. Future endeavors will continue to focus on educational equity and community development and the operationalization of democratic schooling.

Professional Development

Professor Ochoa has published over 35 articles on non-formal education, educational planning and development, parent leadership, bilingual desegregation, language policy, and evaluation. He has also edited journals, offered seminars, evaluated early childhood education programs, and developed advocacy oriented programs. He is an active member of the American Educational Research Association and is an active presenter  in associations related to his research interests.

Other Interesting Things

Involved in the study of mesoamerican archeology and the study of nahuatl philosophy and poetry. he is also involved in recreational sports. Since 1965 he has served as a consultant in settings that have taken him to a number of nations around the world.
