SDSU Women's Studies

Certificate in Women's Studies

Suitable for those interested in learning about the issues and concerns relevant to women's lives historically and in the present day

Program Overview

SDSU's Certificate in Women's Studies is designed to provide advanced training for individuals already holding a bachelor's degree (in any field) who desire to increase their understanding of women in the humanities and social sciences, as well as become proficient in understanding theories unique to the discipline.

The program is designed to provide diverse ways for students to develop knowledge of how women have lived, worked, thought, resisted, created knowledge and engaged in cultural activism. This professional development program offers discipline-specific expertise from faculty with a variety of backgrounds, as well as the experience of interdisciplinary studies.

The Certificate is suitable for teachers, health care workers and administrators, multi-cultural social service agency employees, community activists, and others who are concerned about and interested in a vast array of issues and concerns relevant to women's lives historically and in the present day.

Participants will enroll in regular SDSU Women's Studies classes at the upper-division undergraduate level (500) and the graduate level (600 and 700) through the Open University program. In addition, should these courses be offered during Summer Session, Certificate students may take them then as well.
