The following is a check list to help
guide you through the application requirements:
Take the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) and have your scores sent directly to SDSU. Our institutional code is 4682. You do not need a departmental code. Plan to take the exam early enough to have the scores available for our admissions process. International students must also submit TOEFL scores.
Fill out the official University application form and submit it directly via the online process. The simplest method is to use CSU Mentor and apply.
Submit directly to the Women's Studies Department an essay (not to exceed 1 page). This should be a personal statement of background, intentions, and goals, including experience in women's studies and with women's issues, rationale for pursuing the M.A. degree, and relation of the M.A. degree in women's studies to prior academic work and to career objectives.
Have two (2) referees submit sealed letters of recommendation on your behalf to the Women's Studies Department (NOT Graduate Admissions). These recommenders may be past or current academic instructors or employment supervisors.
Arrange to have all of your official college transcripts sent directly to SDSU's Graduate Admissions Department (SDSU, 5500 Campanile Dr., San Diego, CA 92182-8225). Students whose grade point average (GPA) is less than 3.0 in the last 60 units equivalent of study will not normally be considered for admission.
If you wish to be considered for a Graduate Assistantship, download that form from our website or request it from our office and submit it directly to the Women's Studies Department.
The deadline for all of the above is February 15.
Additional Information
Soon after the February 15 deadline, the Department will evaluate all the completed files and decide which students it elects to admit to the program. It is important that your file is complete in both the Graduate Admissions Division and the Department of Women's Studies by this date.
Students admitted to the Department will be assigned an interim advisor from the faculty. Incoming students should consult this advisor and may also want to contact other faculty with whom they share a common academic interest. You are always welcome to seek the advice of the Graduate Advisor, particularly where program requirements are concerned.
