The Institute of International Education-Mexico City Internship Program

The Institute of International Education is pleased to announce an update to our Mexico City Internship Program. Interns will now have the opportunity to work within the additional departments that form IIE/Office for Latin America, including Educational Advising, Scholarship Administration, and Publications. In addition, IIE will be offering more internship positions available throughout the year. This expansion to the program demonstrates the Institute's education to improving the opportunities for international educational exchange.

Interns will gain experience in responding to U.S. educational inquiries for graduate, undergraduate, and short-term programs of study; communicating on a formal level with private and governmental organizations; conducting research for publications; editing the monthly advising center newsletter; creating presentations; managing databases; marketing; and assisting with general program administration.

  • Educational Counseling
  • International Education
  • International Studies
  • Latin American Studies
  • Library Studies
  • Public Affairs
  • Spanish

IIE will help complete paperwork necessary for students to earn academic credit for their internship, but it is the responsibility of each intern to fully investigate the institutional requirements for credit.

Interns will be living and working in Mexico City for a period of three to four months. The internship includes a full-time work schedule, Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 5:30pm, except official Mexican and American holidays. One day off is granted for each two weeks worked.

Interns have the opportunity to explore the Mexican educational and business communities, as well as the field of international education in the U.S. Former interns have pursued careers with The College Board, AFS, University of Pennsylvania, the Goldman Sachs Foundation, American Chamber of Commerce, a Mexican law firm, as well as international positions with IIE such as the Student Counselor and Coordinator for Educational Services.

CableRep Internship

CableRep currently have a student intern position open in our Hispanic Sales and Marketing Department. This department focuses on our Hispanic products: ¡Hola San Diego!, Padres Baseball, Galavision, and Cablemas. Since the Hispanic Sales and Marketing department deals heavily with San Diego's Hispanic community, we would prefer candidates who are fully bilingual in Spanish and English, but this is not set in stone.

Below is a complete description of the internship position:

Marketing/Hispanic

The objective of this position is to aid in the sales efforts set forth by the Hispanic Sales Director. Intern will work closely with sales reps, production department, and CableRep clients to produce the television show "Hola San Diego" and other Hispanic promotions.

Intern's responsibilities may include:

  • Assisting in the coordination and creation of sales materials
  • Contest fulfillment
  • Maintaining a calendar of events
  • Assisting on client shoots
  • Production requests
  • Coordinating client shoots and interviews
  • Event coordination

Qualifications

  • Two semesters of university level Spanish classes or equivalent (bilingual Spanish preferred but not necessary)
  • Experience in Marketing
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Ability to think creatively and solve problems quickly
  • Strong organizational skills
  • PC literate: Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to lift 25 lbs
  • Flexibility with schedule (some weekend work involved)

At CableRep, our goal is to educate the student on the "real world" side of business, a side that is difficult to understand unless you experience it first hand. With this in mind, the student's formal education is also very important to us. We will make every effort to fit the internship into the student's school schedule. We hope that by providing these internships we are giving young people a chance to experience the business world while at the same time giving us an opportunity to tryout immerging talent in the marketplace.

Thank you for your time,
