Applying for the M.A.

General Considerations

1. For information regarding admission to San Diego State University, please see the Graduate Admissions webpage.

2. Submit the California State University application electronically at CSUMentor (http://www.csumentor.edu) along with the $55 application fee.

3. Satisfy the general requirements for admission to the university with classified graduate standing, as described in Part Two of the Graduate Bulletin.

4. Possess an undergraduate major in Spanish, including 24 upper division units, must have been completed, at least six units of which must have been in a survey course in Spanish literature.

Submit to Graduate Admissions:

1. Official transcripts (in sealed envelopes) from all postsecondary institutions attended. Note: Students who attended SDSU need only submit transcripts for work completed since last attendance. Students with international coursework must submit both the official transcript and proof of degree. If documents are in a language other than English, they must be accompanied by a certified English translation.

2. GRE scores (www.ets.org -- SDSU Institution Code 4682) 3. TOEFL score, if medium of instruction was in a language other than English (www.ets.org -- SDSU Institution Code 4682)

Submit to the department:

1. Three letters of reference

2. Statement of purpose.

Admissions Deadlines

For Fall Semester:

Domestic Applicants: May 1

International Applicants: May 1

For Spring Semester:

Domestic Applicants: November 1

International Applicants: October 1

The student must periodically check his web portal in order to see the status of the graduate application process and supply the necessary documents if needed. Once you have applied electronically, you will receive an e-mail within approximately 10 days with your Red ID which you will need in order to set up your web portal account.
