THE PURPOSE OF THE HONOR SOCIETY IS:

  • to award permanent recognition of your excellence in the field of history
  • to bring teachers and students together intellectually and socially
  • to offer presentations on carrers for the history major
  • to present lectures on a variety of topics of history
  • to inform members of meetings and publications through newsletters
and journal of the society, The Historiam

    Become a published author:

There are two ways to participate in Phi Alpha Theta's journal The Historian and add a publication to your resume. The first is to submit an article for publication. Article submissions should address a topic that appeals to a broad, non-specialist audience and have less than 6000 words, exclusive of bibliographical information. The second way is to volunteer to write a book review. The Historian has an extensive book review section in each edition and students are encouraged to volunteer as reviewers. Students may apply to be a reviewer by contacting the book review editor, Richard F. Spall, Slocum Hall-Suite 337, Ohio Wesleyan University, Delaware, OH 43015. Book reviewers are not paid but do receive a copy of the book reviewed.

    The "new" Phi Alpha Theta:

Phi Alpha Theta has a new executive director, under whose leadership the executive committee and the organization as a whole are redirecting funds to students, in the form of awards and scholarships. We hope that translates into greater benefits for our chapter and individual members.
